On this full-day tour of the West Region of Portugal, you have an option to visit Alcobaça or Batalha, according to your best interest. We've decided to include in this tour a visit to Fátima, the religious capital of Portugal, and an essential place to visit for many people. However, if religion doesn't interest you, you can visit both Batalha and Alcobaça instead.

We will start the day with a visit to  Fátima and its Sanctuary, the site where Our Lady of Fátima appeared in 1917. Since then, millions of pilgrims go there to pay their promises, to pray or just to feel its mystical strength! The Sanctuary Square is so big that it can only be described by numbers: it can receive simultaneously 300.000 visitors and it's twice the size of St. Peter's Square in the Vatican. From Fátima we will continue to the  Monastery of Batalha, (or Alcobaça  as an option) the biggest example in Portugal of the late gothic Portuguese style, where we can find a mix of the gothic style with the Manuelino Art - the symbol of the Portuguese maritime expansion. If you choose to go to Alcobaça instead then you will visit the famous 12th-century monastery. This monastery is not only a beautiful architectural example, but it has also the monuments in memory of King D. Pedro I and D. Inês de Castro (characters of a true romantic Portuguese story from the 14th century, very similar to "Romeo and Juliet") of magnificent stone handwork.

For the lunch break, the  fishing village of Nazaré will come as the perfect spot, since the fresh grilled fish and amazing views of the Ocean should be enough to re-energize you till the end of the day. The last stop of our Tour will be in  Óbidos, a magnificent medieval town, which you will explore on foot. This town will take you centuries back in time with the old whitewashed houses completely surrounded by the old castle walls. After walking in the town center and maybe climbing up to the ramparts to enjoy the incredible view it will be time to return back to Lisbon for a relaxed evening.
